How a Game Lives has left the printer + recent launch reminders 📖🎵

We have an exciting update to share on How a Game Lives: The Annotated Essays of Jacob Geller.

All 16,000 copies are on their way to our shipping centre, due to arrive with them early next week. Once they have arrived, they will be securely packed and quality checked before being sent out.

We estimate shipments will start going out to customers week beginning 26 May, with orders continuing to ship throughout the subsequent weeks. Arrival time may vary depending on your location and your country’s customs procedures.

Above is a sneak peak of the final product – an advanced copy sent to Jacob Geller. It has been a bucket-list collaboration working with one of our favourite creators, and we are confident you will be as satisfied with the book as Jacob is.

As always, we’d love to see pictures of your books when they arrive! Be sure to tag us in your pics on socials – or why not show us your whole collection in the #shelfies channel on our Discord?

Joysticks to Haptics

In case you missed it - we recently announced a brand-new book made in collaboration with Expanse and HarperCollins: Joysticks to Haptics!

Joysticks to Haptics, sequel to A Handheld History and The Console Chronicles, revisits all the key moments and innovations that shaped video game controllers. From the early days of keypads and dials to the revelation of the analogue stick and the phenomenon of motion control – no stone is left unturned. Every major controller is paid homage to, each masterclass design choice and misstep alike are explored. And, as is tradition with our games history books, we make plenty of space for the weird and wonderful too.

This comprehensive volume features both insightful retrospectives and incisive personal essays. You’ll not only learn about these hardware innovations, but how they touched different writers’ lives. Plus, enjoy rare photography of peripherals lost to time, thanks to our friends at the Embracer Games Archive.

Our 240-page ode to controllers is fully complete and available for pre-order from all major retailers now! You can purchase a copy wherever books are sold, from Amazon to Target to Waterstones. Please note: Joysticks to Haptics is currently only available through these partners. The book is not available via Lost In Cult’s website.
