Shinya Tsukamoto has spent his life meticulously archiving his career – from every storyboard, sketch, and poster, down to thousands of photographs, news clippings, and magazine reviews. He opened his office to us in autumn 2025, where we spent dozens of hours scanning and photographing as much material as we could for this project.
While it’d be impossible to fit everything into this 400-page book, we’ve included more than 500 unique assets – many never before seen by the public – showing the concepting, production, and release of every major project Tsukamoto made throughout his career (and a few he didn’t!).
Start with his earliest adventures in Super 8mm filmmaking, working with his friends on the kaiju thriller Genshi-san, and chart his creative journey through to his most recent work, the Vietnam War drama Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People?
