Updates on Outer Wilds, EDITIONS, DYKG, Make Us Whole, [lock-on], Laika, and more
We’re wrapping up a killer week at Lost In Cult. We’ve just launched our Paper Trail EDITIONS and vinyl, and recently You’re Not Overthinking It - our second book project with the wonderful Jacob Geller - as well as our eclectic limited cassette release of PUNKCASE Délicieux Vol. 1 Mixtape.
We’ve also teased our upcoming launches for Mouthwashing: Design Works and Phasmophobia: The Board Game. Earlier in the month, we launched a Death Stranding 2: On the Beach art print exclusively with the IGN Store, launched our Real Sound: Kaze no Regret vinyl soundtrack, and our Alan Wake: Design Works campaign is still going strong.
We have more Design Works books and other projects on the horizon very soon - but it’s not all about brand-new projects and what’s coming in the future. We’re very pleased to have been shipping so many projects lately and hope you have all been enjoying some more Lost In Cult works of art in the flesh.
Below, we have a bumper update covering [lock-on] 006, Do You Know Gaming?, Make Us Whole: The History of Dead Space, Outer Wilds: Design Works, Laika: Aged Through Blood, The Precinct, and EDITIONS.
We’ll also have an update on KILL THE PAST sent to customers via email next week.
Make Us Whole: The History of Dead Space
We’re finally here. Make Us Whole is, at last, reaching doorsteps far and wide. And Lost In Cult has graciously let me share one more word with y’all before you’ve read it cover to cover – which was quite the question. What else could I add?
One of the most challenging aspects of writing is grappling with boundless possibility. You can go in so many directions, so you have to be decisive. Yet as I sit here at my desk, writing this letter to you, dear reader… I’m not sure how to properly express the overwhelming gratitude in my heart that you’ve chosen to give my debut book a place on your shelf.
Make Us Whole has been a journey. What started as a desire to express what Dead Space means to me led to discoveries and experiences that redefined it. I know now why its pieces click together the way they do. I’ve had the privilege of seeing what could’ve been. My glimpses behind the curtain aren’t simply magical, but revelatory, as I’ve come to understand the magic trick. The intricacies that make an impossible thing exist.
Not too long ago, my fellow Lost in Cult author Jacob Geller posted a video pondering how well we can truly know a game. That, at the end of the day, everyone’s perspective on it is a little – or significantly – different. So, it’s humbling to think that this book may reframe Dead Space for you as much as writing it has for me. Maybe now the struggles will make sense, the high points all the more wonderful. Above all else, Make Us Whole is a story about the countless talented men and women who brought it to life. Many of them have moved on to new challenges, but it’s clear that Dead Space left its mark upon them as much as it did on all of us who grew up with Isaac and Ellie.
I’m not sure what the future holds, but I hope that what you read over the coming days entertains, informs, and excites you. That we’ll be doing this again soon! Until then, stay curious, find joy, and blaze bright with the courage of an engineer taking on a giant killer moon. – Elijah Beahm
Outer Wilds: Design Works
It’s been an exciting couple of months at Lost In Cult, with projects like [lock-on] 006, Immortality: Design Works, Make Us Whole, How a Games Lives, and more all either having already shipped out, or currently in the process of shipping.
Now, it’s almost Outer Wilds: Design Works’ turn to ship out. We are expecting shipping to begin within the next few weeks this October.
This additional slight delay is due to the paper order with our printing partners, who faced an unexpected delay in acquiring the necessary quantities of paper stock. With their issue now resolved, the book is now printed and we’re ready to get these out to you all shortly. Thank you for waiting just a little bit longer during this last hurdle.
Written by our editorial director Chris Schilling and beautifully designed by the brilliant Tim George, Outer Wilds: Design Works is one of our biggest releases to date. It’s been an incredible honour for our entire team to tell the story of such an important video game. We can’t wait to get this beautiful, passion-filled book in your hands - the next time you’ll hear an update from us will be when Outer Wilds: Design Works is shipping. Thank you for your patience - we hope you enjoy it!
Here’s a few words from the team at Mobius Digital:
"Chris took a lot of care to avoid and correct some past misconceptions about development. This is the most comprehensive and accurate record of what went into Outer Wilds to date. We think it will be well worth the extra short wait."
Do You Know Gaming?
We’re happy to report that Do You Know Gaming, our gaming trivia and dungeon-crawling board game, made in collaboration with the team at DidYouKnowGaming, has started shipping.
Standard and Deluxe orders have now been dispatched. Please account for courier timings, which will alternate depending on where you’re located. We look forward to hearing how you experience the game with your friends - send us some pictures of you playing it, our team would love to see it! 🐉
[lock-on] Vol. 006
In case you missed it - [lock-on] Vol. 006 recently shipped!
Ending up at a truly astonishing 558 pages, full to the brim with hundreds of original pieces of written content and commissioned artwork, we hope it’s now understandable why this one took a bit longer in the oven. Comparing it to Vol. 001 really does put it all in perspective at the sheer amount that’s gone into making this book happen.
Many of you will already have received your copy. Couriers may vary the arrival timing, so fret not if your delivery is not yet quite in-hand. Rest assured, we are already working ahead on the future of [lock-on], how to make it sustainable, and how to get future volumes out in a quicker turnaround. Please don’t expect the next volume to continue the trend of [lock-on] getting bigger and bigger.
Thanks so much for being patient with us and supporting [lock-on], which has been the backbone of Lost In Cult since our inception.
